While job hunting in our final year in college, we realized that somehow no matter how great our CGPA or projects were, we were facing difficulties in getting opportunities in other companies unless there was some mutual contact.
On further digging and talking to our peers as well as seniors, we came across common confusion points or career conundrums:
- Our very first step even for pursuing internships and not just jobs was to inquire about the responsibilities in our desired role or companies but somehow it was very difficult to catch hold of people who were working in roles/companies we aspired to be in.
The internet was filled with extremely generic answers and the attempt to connect to such people ( through Linkedin/Twitter ) often yielded little results or insights.
To further test this we talked to family members, friends, and juniors in The more we talked to them the more we realized how confused they were during their college/area of study/company/role deciding phase and ultimately resorted to googling random career choices or taking advice from some well-to-do distant cousin.
- All throughout college, we were so bent upon getting a job “getting a job” that we never thought about exploring what our interests were.
In many of the cases we talked to, the people who were 1 or 2 years into their jobs were planning to go for further studies. Apart from these, there were many who were unsatisfied with the kind of work they had been doing but due to financial restraint couldn’t opt for higher studies and were thus desperately looking to switch jobs.
Almost all of them carried some or other career regret (mostly not researching enough about their degree/company/role/opportunity) and talked about the absence of proper guidance during their time.
All they wanted was a conversation with the right person during their time who could have told them about what they were getting into before they started their corporate/college journey.
- The pandemic has resulted in a paradigm shift in the ways of learning and getting opportunities
In this digital age where the opportunities are endless, your work/project/experience speaks much more than just having a degree from some college, there is a need to find your niche and work on that. How to get started? Or from where to get started?
The questions are endless, guidance is not.
Know was born because the mentors readily agreed to guide people and share whatever they could so that the students do not go through the same struggle and confusion as them for absolutely free of cost
Know was born because the people on the other side (working in the corporate world ) understand the futility of the “getting a job ” mindset and realize the importance of balance among your passion, career prospects, and making money
That’s why we at Know, aim to deliver a platform that can help you to steer through all the confusion and make a knowledgeable leap towards your future.
