Web Developer

Web developers are programmers who engage in the development of websites and web applications by using programming languages such as JavaScript, Java, PHP or Python that make sites operate properly. They build websites that not only satisfy demands of end users but also enable them to be attracted and navigate easily.

When web developers perform the behind-the-scenes activities that particularly focus on web servers to deliver database information to browsers, they are called back-end developers. Meanwhile, front end web developers work in browsers and identify what end users will see in the interface part. Besides, those working on both client and server sides are known as full stack web developers.

Web developer VS Web designer?

Their roles differ. A web developer uses coding languages to build the structure and layout of the website, while a web designer is more responsible for improving user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) by designing appealing websites. In other words, web developers will bring creative ideas of designers to life and make sites more functional.

SDE/SDET/Software Engineer/Software Engineer/Software Systems Developer

In terms of coding, an SDE-1 is expected to work on defined problems and come up with different approaches choosing the best one in terms of scalability, maintainability etc.

As part of on-call rotation, they are expected to work on the issues in the system and fix them.

The technologies an SDE works on, will be dependent on the team they are working for. Though the most used language is Java, they can easily find teams working on various languages (Python, etc.) and technologies (AWS services, open-source tools etc.) based on the domain they are in.

Difference between an SDE and a Web developer

One finds that the work a SDE does is more or less the same as a web developer. An SDE may work on a web or android project and even on tools which may align with a web developer’s work as well which is the case most of the times.

DevOps Software Engineer

Defining what DevOps engineers do is still in flux because DevOps is not a framework or a workflow. It’s a culture that is overtaking the business world. DevOps ensures collaboration and communication between software engineers (Dev) and IT operations (Ops). More precisely, DevOps Engineer is somebody who understands the Software Development Lifecycle and has the outright understanding of various automation tools for developing digital pipelines (CI/ CD pipelines).
