I have always seen myself as a person who learns by taking up challenges and this looked like just the sort of journey I would like to embark upon.

Chirag’s journey from a Support role to a Data Scientist

Bagging a 13-14 LPA package felt like the perfect conclusion to college and a glorious start in the corporate world. But having worked there for a few months, I realized that troubleshooting wasn’t something I enjoyed doing as a full-time job. Even though the company was great and had a super cool work environment, I wanted to work with something more challenging and build something of my own.

But having worked there for a few months, I realized that troubleshooting wasn’t something I enjoyed doing as a full-time job. Even though the company was great and had a super cool work environment, I wanted to work with something more challenging and build something of my own.

It was then that I started to explore Data Science and enrolled in a distance learning course. The course helped me in getting hands-on experiences in advanced DS topics. All this made me confident enough to start my journey as a Data Analyst at Dozee and it marked the beginning of my official inclusion in the Data Science world. Working there helped me gain the much-needed relevant experience, and then helped me with a much-needed kickstart in my data science career

My constant struggle and hustling paid off as I have recently joined antuit.ai as a Senior Analyst. And now I have truly realized how blindfolded I was with college placements and the tag of a 10+ LPA job. The only thing that matters is the kind of work you’re doing and whether you enjoy doing it.

Srushti’s journey all the way from a MNC to a startup

Just like the majority of students in my college, I joined a company without having much idea about the role or the kind of work I’d be doing.

Fast forward to a few months after onboarding, I enjoyed the internship period as it brought new challenges but as it transitioned to a full-time I felt I can maybe learn more and better things in a startup ecosystem where

Soon I found an opportunity to work at a startup and I was more than happy to take it up. It was new and exciting and chaotic and just perfect for me. I have always seen myself as a person who learns by taking up challenges and this looked like just the sort of journey I would like to embark upon. In short, it was fun for me and continues to be.

Manthan’s self-made journey across startups

Coming from a tier-3 college, I knew that I couldn’t expect anything from college. From the very beginning, I had decided that I would keep grinding and looking for off-campus opportunities. I soon realized that having a good network was very crucial if I wanted to get a job I liked.

I started with mobile development and became an early adopter with Flutter. I made a bunch of cool projects and did internships to hone my skills. All this really helped me out in making a portfolio that could stand out.

I started targeting early-stage startups because I knew that I would learn the most here. The learning curve was awesome and I learned enormously, even more than my overall college curriculum. All this really helped me ace my skills as a Backend developer. I think cold mailing skill is one of the best weapons that a student can have albeit initially, I didn’t get many positive responses because I had no working experience. But after my first job at BottleCo, I played the cold emailing game to my advantage and it really worked out for me.

I also started adding to my network other developers and professionals in my sought-after companies and roles and this not only helped me in understanding the typical startup ecosystem but also empowered me to discover and dominate new opportunities. I also came across the wonderful world of System Design and soon was head over heels for the related concepts.

By the end of my 3rd year, I had a PPO from IndMoney and received better offers from other startups as well and finally ended up choosing Quhoo where I work as a Product Engineer. The biggest takeaway from my journey so far is to never stop hustling and not waiting for anyone to serve food on the plate for you, rather go ahead and earn it yourself.

Abhishek’s adventures with Open Source

The pandemic was the perfect obstacle during my placement season in college. Since I belonged to a tier-3 college there weren’t any good companies visiting my campus anyway. But I kept an open mind, got placed in Wipro and decided to do my best and concentrate on learning.

Unfortunately, as soon as I started working I realized that the technologies I was working with were neither something I was interested in nor were growth-oriented. I realized that I needed to explore things for myself hence started working on my online presence. I started developing my Github profile and participated in Open-source programs like Hacktoberfests. Even though I was pretty late to the game but that did not stop me from trying and learning new things. All of this was quite a ride for me but I kept at it.

It was difficult managing a full-time job with interviews but my hard work finally paid off and now I am working as a Software Craftsperson at Incubyte. I realize that the right guidance at the right time can really pave the way for a brighter future. I had to figure things out for myself the hard way therefore I hope I am able to help others with the knowledge that I have gained over the years.
